Musik reggae tidak identik dengan ganja, yang ada ialah pengganja yang suka musik reggae.... 

Dok. Komunitas Reggae DKI JakartaSiapa bilang bahwa musik Reggae itu identik dengan ganja? Karena saat ini, ternyata ada sekelompok anak muda yang gemar dengan musik reggae, namun juga anti untuk menggunakan ganja atau bermabuk-mabukan. Memang tak bisa dipungkiri bahwa ada kelompok-kelompok musik reggae yang suka mengganja dan bermabuk-mabukan, akan tetapi bukan berarti bahwa semua pemusik reggae juga demikian. Selalu ada yang berbeda dalam suatu kelompok.
Demikian pula dengan Komunitas Reggae DKI Jakarta ini, karena nyata-nyata komunitas ini mengaku anti terhadap penyalahgunaan ganja. Sebab menurut mereka, untuk menikmati musik reggae kita tidak perlu harus menghisap ganja segala. “Kalau Bob Marley menggunakan ganja, karena memang di sana kebetulan ganja diperbolehkan. Nah, kalau di sini?“ jelas Tony Dwi Kusuma, Ketua Komunitas Reggae DKI Jakarta.
Menurut Tony, komunitasnya ini memang sengaja dibentuk untuk mengubah paradigma negatif, yang terlanjur menempel pada penikmat musik reagge, yaitu orang yang gemar menggunakan ganja. “Penyalahgunaan ganja adalah sebuah pilihan, jangankan anak reggae, orang yang di luar reggae pun bisa juga menghisap ganja,” kata Tony.
Karena ingin mencoba mengubah paradigma, maka dirinya pun mencoba menyosialisasikan hal ini kepada setiap anggotanya. Maka diapun membuat peraturan yang melarang seluruh anggotanya menggunakan narkoba, atau pun minuman keras, di dalam basecamp tempat mereka biasa berkumpul.

Komunitas Reggae DKI JakartaTony mengakui kalau dirinya saat ini sedang mengalami kesulitan, yaitu untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada anggota komunitasnya perihal reaggae dan narkoba, karena memang anggotanya berasal dari latar belakang pendidikan atau pun profesi yang berbeda-beda. Tidak hanya itu, banyak pula anggotanya yang memang sudah terbiasa menggunakan narkoba. Jadi, memang butuh waktu untuk mengubahnya. “Intinya adalah, bagaimana cara kita berkomunikasi kepada mereka, jangan sampai seperti menggurui,” kata Tony.
Komunitas ini bisa dibilang belum lama berdiri. Umurnya baru setahun lebih. Persisnya didirikan pada 25 Maret 2011, yakni berawal dari keisengan Rizky Ferik Febrianto, yang saat itu membuat sebuah akun di Facebook dengan nama Komunitas Reggae DKI Jakarta.
Dok. Komunitas Reggae DKI JakartaTak disangka-sangka, ternyata jumlah anggota komunitas ini dari hari ke hari terus bertambah dan bertambah. Dan mereka yang bergabung itu, berasal dari berbagai latar belakang profesi. Mulai dari pelajar, karyawan, mahasiswa, hingga pengamen. “Saat ini, jika dilihat jumlah anggota kita di FB mencapai ribuan orang, namun yang aktif berkumpul jumlahnya delapan puluhan orang,” kata Rizky.
Setiap seminggu sekali, komunitas ini berkumpul di dekat pintu satu Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta. Di sana, di pinggir jalan, komunitas ini sering sering berkumpul dan bernyanyi bersama. Dan setiap kali berkumpul begitu mereka membaur begitu saja, tanpa pernah membeda-bedakan status sosial atau pun profesi, seperti yang ada dalam lirik-lirik yang dibawakan oleh musisi raggae, yang selalu menyuarakan cinta damai, persatuan, dan anti rasis.
Rizki dan Tomy. (Foto: Novriyadi/TNOL)Selain sering mengadakan kegiatan kopdar atau gathering, komunitas ini juga pernah mengadakan kegiatan bakti sosial. Bahkan mereka pernah mengadakan kegiatan sosial, ketika terjadi bencana meletusnya gunung Merapi di Yogyakarta.
Rizki mengaku, dirinya menyukai musik reggae karena musiknya enak didengar. Tempo musiknya tidak terlalu cepat, serta bisa dipadupadankan dengan beragam alat musik, sehingga membuat dirinya begitu kepincut dengan musik ini.
Lain lagi dengan Tony, di matanya, musik reggae bukan hanya sebagai hiburan semata. Karena sesungguhnya, musik reggae itu merupakan musik yang memiliki lirik-lirik yang begitu humanis, seperti ajakan agar saling menghargai satu sama lain, anti perbudakan, serta persatuan, dan cinta damai. Seperti yang dikatakan Bob Marley, “One Love! One Heart! Let's get together and feel all right.”

JAKARTA- Musik reggae memang jarang sekali muncul di televisi dan radio. Namun, komunitas reggae bisa dikatakan yang paling besar di Indonesia. Lalu apa yang menjadikan musik ini banyak sekali penggemarnya?

Musik reggae adalah jenis musik yang santai dan enak untuk bergoyang. Dalam setiap pertunjukkan musik reggae, jarang sekali ditemukan adanya kerusuhan. Mereka juga selalu mengucapkan kata "peace" yang nyatanya memang membuat konser musik reggae selalu damai dan tertib.

Sebagai salah satu pelopor musik reggae di Indonesia, Tony Q Rastafara pun menjelaskan tentang fenomena reggae di Indonesia dan konser damai yang diciptakannya.

"Reggae secara umum adalah musik yang bisa buat goyang. Sebelumnya ada juga tapi biasanya senggol bacok. Di reggae itu adalah sebuah musik perjuangan yang secara kultur juga macthing dengan kondisi di Indonesia, mereka bisa seneng-seneng sekaligus bisa mencermati isinya," terang Tony saat berbincang di Jakarta belum lama.

Menurut Tony, orang-orang yang datang dan menyukai musik reggae adalah orang-orang yang cinta damai. Kebanyakan dari mereka juga datang untuk mencari pertemanan baru dibandingkan untuk mencari musik. Hal tersebutlah yang membuat musik reggae memiliki banyak penggemar dan komunitas di Indonesia.

"Mereka datang ke konser untuk mencari teman baru bukan musuh baru. Mereka datang ramai-ramai tapi enggak rusuh. Musik reggae adalah musik untuk berjuang tanpa harus pakai kekerasan," paparnya.

Disamping itu, Reggae juga dianggap banyak mempengaruhi pesona tari
dunia tersendiri. Budaya 'Dancehall' Jamaika yang menonjol plus sound
system megawatt, rekaman yang eksklusif, iringan drum dan bass, dan
lantunan rap dengan iringannya telah menjadi budaya tari dan tampilan
yang luar biasa. Inovasi Reggae lainnya adalah Dub remix yang sudah
diasimilasi menjadi musik populer lainnya lebih luas lagi.

"Ngga asli Jamaika lho!"

Reggae
memang adalah musik unik bagi Jamaika, ironisnya akarnya berasal dari
New Orleans R&B. Nenek moyang terdekatnya, ska berasal berasal dari
New Orleans R&B yang didengar para musisi Jamaika dari siaran radio
Amrik lewat radio transistor mereka. Dengan berpedoman pada iringan
gitar pas - pasan dan putus - putusadalah interprestasi mereka akan
R&B dan mampu jadi populer di tahun 60an. Selanjutnya semasa musim
panas yang terik, merekapun kepanasan kalo musti mainin ska plus
tarinya, hasilnya lagunya diperlambat dan lahirlah Reggae. Sejak itu,
Reggae terbukti bisa jadi sekuat Blues dan memiliki kekuatan
interprestasi yang juga bisa meminjam dari Rocksteady (dulu) dan bahkan
musik Rock (sekarang). Musik Afrika pada dasarnya ada di kehidupan
sehari-hari, baik itu di jalan, bus, tempat umum, tempat kerja ato
rumah yang jadi semacam semangat saat kondisi sulit dan mampu
memberikan kekuatan dan pesan tersendiri. Hasilnya, Reggae musik bukan
cuma memberikan relaksasi, tapi juga membawa pesan cinta, damai,
kesatuan dan keseimbangan serta mampu mengendurkan ketegangan.

"Reggae N Rasta"

Bob
Marley tentunya adalah bintang musik "dunia ketiga" pertama yang jadi
penyanyi group Bob Marley & The Wailers dan berhasil memperkenalkan
reggae lebih universal. Meskipun demikian, reggae dianggap banyak orang
sebagai peninggalan King of Reggae Music, Hon. Robert Nesta Marley.
Ditambah lagi dengan hadirnya "The Harder they Come" pada tahun 1973,
Reggae tambah dikenal banyak orang. Meninggalnya Bob Marley kemudian
memang membawa kesedihan besar buat dunia, namun penerusnya seperti
Freddie McGregor, Dennis Brown, Garnett Silk, Marcia Fiffths dan Rita
Marley serta beberapa kerabat keluarga Marley bermunculan. Rasta adalah
jelas pembentuk musik Reggae yang dijadikan senjata oleh Bob Marley
untuk menyebarkan Rasta keseluruh dunia. Musik yang luar biasa ini
tumbuh dari ska yang menjadi elemen style American R&B dan
Carribean. Beberapa pendapat menyatakan juga ada pengaruh : folk music,
musik gereja Pocomania, Band jonkanoo, upacara - upacara petani, lagu
kerja tanam, dan bentuk mento. Nyahbingi adalah bentuk musik paling
alami yang sering dimainkan pada saat pertemuan - pertemuan Rasta,
menggunakan 3 drum tangan (bass, funde dan repeater : contoh ada di
Mystic Revelation of Rastafari). Akar reggae sendiri selalu menyelami
tema penderitaan buruh paksa (ghetto dweller), budak di Babylon, Haile
Selassie (semacam manusia dewa) dan harapan kembalinya Afrika. Setelah
Jamaica merdeka 1962, buruknya perkembangan pemerintahan dan pergerakan
Black Power di US kemudian mendorong bangkitnya Rasta. Berbagai
kejadian monumentalpun terjadi seiring perkembangan ini.

"Apa sih Reggae"

Reggae
sendiri adalah kombinasi dari iringan tradisional Afrika, Amerika dan
Blues serta folk (lagu rakyat) Jamaika. Gaya sintesis ini jelas
menunjukkan keaslian Jamaika dan memasukkan ketukan putus - putus
tersendiri, strumming gitar ke arah atas, pola vokal yang 'berkotbah'
dan lirik yang masih seputar tradisi religius Rastafari. Meski banyak
keuntungan komersial yang sudah didapat dari reggae, Babylon (Jamaika),
pemerintah yang ketat seringkali dianggap membatasi gerak namun bukan
aspek politis Rastafarinya. "Reg-ay" bisa dibilang muncul dari anggapan
bahwa reggae adalah style musik Jamaika yang berdasar musik soul
Amerika namun dengan ritem yang 'dibalik' dan jalinan bass yang
menonjol. Tema yang diangkat emang sering sekitar Rastafari, protes
politik, dan rudie (pahlawan hooligan). Bentuk yang ada sebelumnya (ska
& rocksteady) kelihatan lebih kuat pengaruh musik Afrika -
Amerika-nya walaupun permainan gitarnya juga mengisi 'lubang - lubang'
iringan yang kosong serta drum yang kompleks. Di Reggae kontemporer,
permainan drum diambil dari ritual Rastafarian yang cenderung mistis
dan sakral, karena itu temponya akan lebih kalem dan bertitik berat
pada masalah sosial, politik serta pesan manusiawi.

Menurut
sejarah Jamaica, budak yang membawa drum dari Africa disebut "Burru"
yang jadi bagian aransemen lagu yang disebut "talking drums" (drum yang
bicara) yang asli dari Africa Barat. "Jonkanoo" adalah musik budaya
campuran Afrika, Eropa dan Jamaika yang terdiri dari permainan drum,
rattle (alat musik berderik) dan conch tiup. Acara ini muncul saat
natal dilengkapi penari topeng. Jonkanoos pada awalnya adalah tarian
para petani, yang belakangan baru disadari bahwa sebenarnya mereka
berkomunikasi dengan drum dan conch itu. Tahun berikutnya, Calypso dari
Trinidad & Tobago datang membawa Samba yang berasal dari Amerika
Tengah dan diperkenalkan ke orang - orang Jamaika untuk membentuk
sebuah campuran baru yang disebut Mento. Mento sendiri adalah musik
sederhana dengan lirik lucu diiringi gitar, banjo, tambourine, shaker,
scraper dan rumba atau kotak bass. Bentuk ini kemudian populer pada
tahun 20 dan 30an dan merupakan bentuk musik Jamaika pertama yang
menarik perhatian seluruh pulaunya. Saat ini Mento masih bisa dinikmati
sajian turisme. SKA yang sudah muncul pada tahun 40 - 50an sebenarnya
disebutkan oleh History of Jamaican Music, dipengaruhi oleh Swing,
Rythym & Blues dari Amrik. SKA sebenarnya adalah suara big band
dengan aransemen horn (alat tiup), piano, dan ketukan cepat "bop". Ska
kemudian dengan mudah beralih dan menghasilkan bentuk tarian "skankin"
pad awal 60an. Bintang Jamaica awal antara lain Byron Lee and the
Dragonaires yang dibentuk pada 1956 yang kemudian dianggap sebagai
pencipta "ska". Perkembangan Ska yang kemudian melambatkan temponya
pada pertengahan 60an memunculkan "Rock Steady" yang punta tune bass
berat dan dipopulerkan oleh Leroy Sibbles dari group Heptones dan
menjadi musik dance Jamaika pertama di 60an.
